Although my practice focus is on anxiety, with a specialty in social anxiety and panic disorders, I also work with those suffering from depression and bipolar disorders. I work with adolescents and adults. Although my practice is not limited to only those who identify with Christianity, I practice Christian Counseling for those that prefer faith-based counseling.
Through a mindfulness cognitive-behavioral approach I partner with her clients to reveal beliefs that drive thoughts, feelings, and behavior. While awareness and insight are critical to change, it is not sufficient to create the lasting, transformative shifts people seek. I tap into client’s strengths to develop individualized strategies and solutions you can implement once the session ends. The therapeutic relationship is the conduit through which meaningful change can occur.
Although I work with people who are ready to make changes in their anxiety, I go at your own pace because I value your comfort and personal time frame.
You don’t have to do this alone!
In addition, to online sessions for Florida and New Jersey residents, I offer in person office visits in Davie, FL. Online sessions are conducted using a HIPAA compliant platform which can be conducted in the comfort and privacy of your home or office.

Ms. Akman’s clinical experience encompasses working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples using individual, group, and family therapy. Prior to entering into private practice in 2004, she worked in community mental health. She was the Senior Clinician in the Child and Adolescent office and the Adult outpatient office of a community mental health agency. She developed and led anger management groups as well as drug and alcohol intensive outpatient groups for adolescents. Ms. Akman developed and conducted a seminar for other therapists seeking certification for compulsive gambling.
Ms. Akman utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach to psychotherapy, with an emphasis on mindfulness. This means that behavior is influenced by thoughts, feelings and underlying beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world; most of which are unconscious. Making changes in these thoughts and beliefs can lead to a change in behavior and reduction of symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
